Bento

Sunday, August 29 - 11:30AM - 12:30PM

"Bento," which in Japanese refers to "a makeup of different things to become one," seemed fitting for this four piece band which has several albums to their credit. While studying abroad in England, Scott Iwata, Bento's founder, started writing songs and had an epiphany that he wanted to start a band. When Scott came back to the Bay Area, he and some friends got together to form Bento. "Alternative, Modern, Indie"...label them at your peril. These guys write songs, first and foremost. And after all the hype has died down, you'll still be quietly singing along to their sweet melodies.

Pulse

Sunday, August 29 - 1:00PM - 2:30PM

Pulse is probably best known as being the house band at the now defunct Kanzaki Lounge in San Francisco’s Japantown. With outlets for music like the Kanzaki, Asian American bands flourished in the Bay Area in the 80’s. Young Asian Americans growing up in the Bay Area Bay Area all know Pulse, as they all have probably gone to a dance or event where Pulse played. Pulse was arguably the the most popular of the Asian American bands at a time when the Bay Area music scene for Asian Americans was at a high.
